Broken clouds today with some nice periods of sun. Comfortable temperatures in the low 60s to mid 70s. A cool night was great for sleeping.

The sun was sending bright rays into the cabin when I got up. The view out the window was ---
"What is this?"
It's more pant loads of Mayflies. Remember Paducah? Again - don't the Mayflies know it is September?

And here are a few more disgusting shots of the infestation of the Mayflies. The good thing is you can get them off with the anchor wash hose so it's not the worst thing that could happen.
After our impromptu boat washing we get underway. The clouds have thickened some but it is still very beautiful on the river.
And the river is even nicer with some sun
And they even have mermaids on inland waters.
We traveled about 55 miles today to Clifton. It is one of the few towns actually built along the river. One of the reasons is the potential flooding each year so any town must be on high ground - which there isn't that much of along the river. Here we are at the Clifton Marina.
The river's potential for up and down can be seen by looking at the dock pipes in this photo. From the marks on the pipes the rivers comes up about 25 feet from current levels.
The center of town was about a mile from the marina - we actually passed it as the marina is upstream of the town. There is a small but attractive Main St. The problem is that many of the store fronts are empty. We did find a nice Mexican restaurant for dinner.
We walked to the river edge and as you can see the City is built on a high bluff above the river.
And the area remembers events in the Civil War - which I think is appropriate as it is history and one that should not be forgotten. And one thing to remember is that most of the battles occurred in the south so that is where you would expect to find monuments to be located.
