August 11, 2025 Buckle to Northeast Harbor - August 12 Hike to Jordan Pond

Shhhhhhh Don't tell the anyone but it is another glorious day!!!

We are off around 8:30 to travel the approximately 14 miles to Northeast Harbor.

We once again pass by Bass Harbor Light. I likely have more video and pictures of this spot than anything else - save the grandkids. Ryan and Rob don't be offended since when you were young it was film only - and from that perspective you have the greatest share of snaps in the pre-digital days collection.

The first look at the mountains of Mount Desert Island as turn into the Western Way channel. Northeast Harbor is straight ahead.

Our plan to arrive about 11:00, since that is check out time for moorings, once again nets us a single point mooring. This beautiful craft is a perfect prop for a photo of our wonderful spot.

The plan is to take the outstanding bus service into Bar Harbor for lunch - and maybe ice cream.

The harbor from shore side. Ryan and Rob - do you remember finally getting here so you could use the payphone to call home?

Bar Harbor. It is beautiful town. And today the tourists are not overwhelming.

A great day.

Today is our day to hike the 3 miles to Jordan Pond. The delight at the end of the effort is lunch at Jordan Pond.

Our hike begins climbing up to Thuya Gardens ......

.... with a photo op at a beautiful overlook.

Thuya Gardens - One could spend a long time here in such beautiful glory.

And onto the trail. There is nowhere like the woods of the Maine Islands.

The Map  House - at the intersection of a good number of trails.

The Admiral studying and planning our route.

I know we are near the end of the trail when the "knee" tree comes into view.

And our destination. The popovers were great. The food this year even seems to have improved from past years - very pleased. We were even joined by Sue and Brent from Dragonfly -  Downeast Yacht Club members. They took the bus over and the timing was perfect.

The history of Mount Desert Island is very interesting. While it is easy to sometimes question those with bags of money, it was such people that created Acadia for us to enjoy today - a treasure that I am always thrilled to enjoy.

Back on PERELANDRA looking to the west side of the harbor and the hill where the overlook and Thuya Gardens are located.

A great day.

Good Night and May God Bless
