We drove up from home to Robinhood. It looks to be some wonderful weather. We are departed in the afternoon with the intent of getting to Boothbay Harbor.
It all when well until we got to the Southport Swing Bridge. This past year it has received a $24 million rehab because it was becoming unreliable. Well guess what? It is still unreliable. "We have been working on the lock mechanism and will be all set in a few minutes" 30 minutes later "Sorry , we will be down for some time more - not sure how long"
Perfect
Saturday has been a carbon copy (how many people now know what that means?) of yesterday - I am a happy boy. We decide to make a course that will get us to Mount Desert Island in three days. The first stop is Long Cove on the west side of Vinalhaven Island.
Here we are passing Marshall Point Light and the entrance to Port Clyde - but we are just passing by/
And my favorite tree again
We are going to the south of Two Bush Island on the west side entrance to Penobscot Bay. We are crossing over to Vinalhaven.
We are entering Hurricane Sound on Vinalhaven.
There are a wonderful cluster of islands on the west side of Vinalhaven that make a stunning passage.
We anchor at the northern end in the outer harbor of Long Cove. We are off in the dinghy as seen below.
Our goal is to get into the Basin. An incredible pond with a tiny inlet. The tide runs incredibly strong in anything but near slack water. It is about one hour to low tide and we hope to be able to get inside.
But the current is still too strong and we decide discretion is the better part of valor.
I was able to get "into" the Basin with the drone
Here's what we wanted to putt around once inside.
The rock in the middle of the entrance is seen below.
Inside is really interesting.
Looking west back at Camden Hills
Hurricane Sound
Back on the boat and the day in fading
So Good Night and May God Bless
