August 16 Friday Long Cove to Boothbay Harbor

The great weather continued. As you can guess, Long Cove faces east.

Our destination is Boothbay Harbor where we plan to spend two days of simply sitting and relaxing.

This is the beautiful lighthouse at the entrance to Tenants Harbor/Long Cove. It has been owned by artist Jamie Wyeth for many years and is a stunning place. It is interesting that something that was built for a practical and vital reason would have such an interesting and appealing facade. A true case of form equals function. But I am sure that mariners that truly depended on lighthouses - long before modern navigation -  would have argued with me on this point insisting that function was only to be considered.

Passing my favorite tree for the last time this year.

And then just ahead is Marshall Point light and entrance to Port Clyde. Another form versus function example - but we continued on by with little discussion among the PERELANDRA crew of this point.

A calm and easy ride across Muscongus Bay brings us to Fisherman's Passage and then the turn toward Boothbay Harbor.

On Saturday is another beautiful day and we are eager to walk our route out to Spruce Point. It is about a 4 mile round trip.

Here we are crossing the foot bridge at the head of the harbor. Always a beautiful view.

This is the location at the far end of the walk where we again see the water.

And then into the woods of Spruce Point Inn -  a most delightful walk.

And back to the footbridge - this time looking up to the head of the harbor.

In the afternoon there was a car meet at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club. I took the dinghy over for a look.

Look closely. This is not PERELANDRA but it is a Bayliner 38 named Gallivant. It used to be owned by a Downeast Yacht Club member but it was sold to someone in St Johns New Brunswick. Interesting to see it back for a visit. There was no one on board so I didn't get a chance to meet the owner.

But here is PERELANDRA - as it should be.

Notice that here is the best rooms with a view of Boothbay Harbor. Look close to see what all five are doing. I had to smile. Probably looking at pictures of Boothbay Harbor!

There was a forecast for a thunderstorm - and it arrived with a vengeance. It was likely the strongest wind I recall experiencing on the boat. Fortunately the wind direction was off the land so the sea was minimal.

And the storm did pass and all returned to normal by night time.

So ..... Good Night and May God Bless
