Day 292 Longboat Key to Cape Haze Thursday March 7,2019

Day 292 Longboat Key to Cape Haze Thursday March 7,2019

The night got cool - down to the upper 40s. The sun was bright and warmed the day nicely. High 70s by mid-day. Great day to start the last leg of the trip and for home.

Today was a great day to start the trip home and the springtime leg of our Great Loop adventure.
The night air was very cool - not cold like home at 5 degrees - but 48 was not the norm here. But the sun was bright and the air clear and crisp and a great day to depart.

But before tales of today, a little catching up over the last several days. On Monday we took a dinghy ride around the area of the Marina to see homes along the water. There is a mango channel that surrounds the peninsular to the north that we rode around. We went with boaters Dick and Phyllis from Wye Tug  our next "door" neighbors during our stay here. They are in the dinghy visible in the distance in front of Faye.

We almost did a 360 degree trip when we ended up in this little lagoon a stone's throw from the marina.

Phyllis' parasol was a good idea.

Fortunately it is not as cold as the name of this boat would imply.

And to prove that extravagance has no limit, let's get a boat bigger - and certainly much faster - than our house!!!

A shag guards the entrance to the marina.

Perelandra in the middle and Wye Tug on the right and , neighbors, Our Time to the left of us.

On Wednesday, Richard and Betsy, friends from Maine and nearby Lido Key in the winter, came to pick us up for the Downeast Yacht Club BBQ lunch in Venice. Richard pointed out manatees only a few slips away from us. The water is murky, but there are at least three of them out for a swim around the boats. First time we have seen them!!

The DEYC BBG had 71 folks. It was much fun to see summer friends gathered down south. I was always jealous of these gathering and really appreciated our chance to participate.

The beach in Venice near the BBQ.

Well now time to talk about today. WE ARE OFF!!. Tom and Doris from Our Time boat neighbors were kind enough to send a photo of our leaving. You will have to forgive all the fenders hanging as we have not had a chance to stow them yet.

Sarasota Bay is bright and sunny.

Here we are looking at the south end of Longboat Key where St Armand circle is located. It is also where friends Richard and Betsy live.......

and who walked up the Island Bridge .....

to wave good bye and to take our picture.

The ride down the Gulf intercoastal waterway was pleasant - some places scenic like the Blackpoint swing bridge ......

..and some interesting like the Albee lift bridge ......

.. and some just plain amazing.

And you can see we have gone a long way from home. Only 1900 miles to go!! Nearly there!

And we saw old car ferries still in use.

And after 38 miles we arrived mid afternoon to Cape Haze, our stop for several days

And we can see the sunsets again from the water!!

So you can see we have had a great first day and it is time to say .....

Good Night and May God Bless
