Day 305 Fort Myers Beach to Fort Myers Wednesday March 20, 2019

Day 305 Fort Myers Beach to Fort Myers Wednesday March 20, 2019

The night time was again mild. The rain of yesterday was gone in the morning but not all of the clouds. The sun and clouds battled it out all day with the clouds winning in the late afternoon enough for rain showers.  Temperatures in the lower 70s

Today was moving day. Off to Fort Myers and the start of crossing Florida via the Caloosahatchee River that leads to the Okeechobee Lake. It is about `117 miles across the state to Stuart. We expect to do it in two days.

Here is the high speed ferry to Key West.

A strange home on the water.

4500 miles - I remember when 500 seemed like a lot

In Fort Myers we were reunited with Knights Kingdom (boat in foreground and Perelandra next boat out) and Jim and Justine with Rocky the Wonder Dog.

We stayed at Edison Ford Marina.

Faye and Justine too cute I'd say

Adjacent to the marina is the museum of the summer homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
There is a wonderful museum. Edison was here first and the longest. He wintered here for his health - don't we all!!!. Ford had worked for Edison and it was his advice to Ford that prompted him to leave Edison's company and three times try to start a car company - the first two did not work out.

The museum building had some great exhibits and actual items on display.

A gift from Ford to Edison

Ironically Ford's first attempt was with the Cadillac Motor Company - he wanted to turn the company to mass producing cars for everyone. Cadillac wanted the up scale clients - and still does -  so there was a parting of the ways.

Edison, Ford, Firestone and John Burroughs developed a tradition of treks into the Florida wilderness for a number of years.

Edison early recording machine. Edison was nearly deaf and would bite the frame of the unit to have the vibrations resonant through his jaw so he could "hear" the music/

An early jukebox!!

And a picture show projector

He built a shop for trying to find a tree in the US that would support rubber making.

Right at the head of the class!!

Yup it is up there.
And now for some photos of the estates.

Edison's house was actually constructed in Fairfield, Maine and shipped down. It was reassembled on site here in Fort Myers.

The tale of the big fish -110 pound fish.

This was Ford' place - right next door

After the museum it was off to Publix. And then to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner

So now it is time to say

Good Night and May God Bless
