Day 152 Columbus MS Marina to Warsaw Oxbow anchorage October 18, 2018

Day 152 Columbus MS Marina to Warsaw Oxbow anchorage October 18, 2018

Some clouds in morning and hints of sun and warm. Sun did claim the day later in the afternoon. At least there was not much breeze and behind us. High 58

The forecast was for warm temperatures and a fair amount of sunshine. The forecast proved accurate with the sun gaining the upper hand in the afternoon. It was a good day to travel. We were ready to get underway at sunrise.
A call to the Fulton Lock was timely as there was a barge coming into the lock and we could pass down after the barge passed. Rather than hang out in the narrow channel out of the marina, we decided to sit tight 20 minutes and then depart. The tow barge was just leaving as we arrived and soon we were in the lock and "going down."

OK here is a question to y'all that will date you if you say yes to the following question. Have you every had a ride in a store elevator that was driven by an operator who announced the merchandise located on the upcoming floor?

But I digress. The day was much warmer than yesterday - that was downright chilly.  But today was even better. There was one other boat, the Looper boat Felix, that made the ride down and stayed with us for most of the rest of the day.

The river was nearly all tree lined today. Even when passing through towns like here and we are going through Columbus.

And very once in a while you see a sign or two of civilization - like this telephone booth on the river bank. I assume it is here as I didn't have any cell signal through here.  You know I'm kidding right- not about the cell service - it was zero at times - but about the phone booth being workable.

The next lock was the Bevill lock. We were about half through the day. We had a tow coming up that we had to wait about thirty minutes for and then we were down and out. The snagboat - yes it was made to deal with snags in the river from trees and other debris - in the picture below is the Montgomery.  It is a permanent drydock just before the entrance to the lock.

And  here is Bevill lock. It is nine out of twelve on the Tenn Tom - only three more to go to reach saltwater again - I am ready. This going in a straight line with obstructions in the way is an adventure but we will be glad to get to the ocean once more.

The ride down the river was nice with the afternoon warming nicely.

Our first choice for an anchorage was Sumter's recreation area - cut out of the river about three miles above the next lock, Heflin. It was full of water hyacinths- not usable. So were back tracked a little to the Warsaw Oxbow anchorage. It was a good second choice.

As you can see the night is fast approaching so it is time to say ............................

God Night and May God Bless
