Day 6 August 2019 Cruise Carvers Harbor to Perrys Creek Sunday August 18, 2019

Day 6 August 2019 Cruise Carvers Harbor to Perrys Creek Sunday August 18, 2019

The night was again cool with fog and the clouds ruled of the day until Perry's Creek along with fog that fortunately wasn't too thick. The sun did make an appearance in the afternoon. The wind was light all day.  Temperatures in the mid 60s

One thing about Maine is the poor cell coverage - We had much better coverage on 99% of the Loop - even in nowhere in Georgian Bay Canada!!

So I have not been able to post daily - will try to catch up.

If you look at the map (link above) you can see that we traveled from the south end of Vinalhaven to the north end. Along the way we traversed the western shore and entered the Fox Island Thorofare (note: that is how it is spelled on the charts).

The fog was there but along the west side it was fairly light as the wind was coming from the east and the leeward side of an island is typically less dense as the air is warmed as it blows over the land. It was again a short ride of about 13 miles - but at a slow pace a most enjoyable one as the fog presented some rather interesting views of the landscape.

As a side note, the great variability of the weather in Maine is actually one of the reasons that it is so wonderful to cruise here. It seems that you can pass through an area and it always to seems to show a new face each time - thus it never seems to get old going to the same places again and again.

Here is leaving Carver's Harbor

The narrow channel just outside harbor.

Hurricane Island - another site of a granite quarry in the past.

Moving north through Hurricane Sound

And this is Leadbetter Narrows

Next we reach the entrance to Fox Island Thorofare - that is guarded/protected by Browns Head Light

And looking to the left is the Sugar Loaves.

The land to the left is North Haven Island and to the right is Vinalhaven

The town of North Haven is to the right

And here is we have arrived at Perry Creek. A destination for many a cruiser.

And here are some aerial photos to finish the blog.

So we had wonderful meal that Paula and Bob made on Honey Dew - it was great fun spending time with them.

So time to say ........

Good Night and May God Bless
