Day 323 St Catherine's Island to Cooper River Sunday April 7, 2019

Day 323 St Catherine's Island to Cooper River Sunday April 7, 2019

The night was cool and nice for sleeping.  There were clouds as we got underway and a cool 62 degree breeze. Most a cloudy sky was around the first part of the morning then quickly sun arrived. Temperatures warmed to the pleasant mid 70s.

The night was a calm. As you remember from yesterday's post, the island is closed to the public. The morning haze as as you can see in the aerial photos (yes I finally found a place with no nearby airports) added to the mystic of the island. So while there was three other boats and lights on the island, but it still seemed very remote and ethereal.

And the bugs decided that it was feeding time at the zoo. The no-see-ums were all over me while I was flying the drone.  I forewarned Faye and she donned what some folks might mistakenly call a rain suit - but it is really a bug-a-way suit.

We traveled about ten miles and met Eagle One coming from there overnight stop in Kilkenny marina.

Soon after we saw 5000 miles roll up on the log. Remember last spring when I was touting that we had made 500 miles? This really seems like much bigger deal.

Here we are approaching Hell Gate - famous for shoaling and snaring a number of boats aground.

And shortly out the other side we had the sun come out. The very cool north breeze with the clouds around warmed and switched to a much nice southerly flow.

We soon began to see much more upland areas.

And civilization popped up. Here is Isle of Hope Marina that Eagle One stopped at to go and see Savannah. We passed on  this trip as we have been there before.

Thunderbolt Marina is a famous yard for boat repair. We stopped for fuel and water.

And here is one for my "I Spy" fans. What special place are we looking at here?

Here is Causton Bluff bridge. The bridge tender will soon be out of a job. Can you see why?

This is crossing the Savannah River which the ships use to the port.

This is approaching Daufuskie Island - a beautiful place that is still only reached by ferry. It is just south of Hilton Head.

West of Daufuskie Island we entered Cooper River and traveled about a mile up to anchor for the evening. I was able to get out the drone twice in one day!

It is a very nice anchorage. We traveled about 60 miles and were down about 1500. We had a good signal so we watched another Endeavor video on Amazon Prime.

So after another fine dinner of chicken, rice and brocolli and the end to TV for the night, it time to say ...........

Good Night and May God Bless
