Day 324 Cooper River to Beaufort, SC Monday April 8, 2019

Day 324 Cooper River to Beaufort, SC Monday April 8, 2019

The night was cool and nice for sleeping.  There was fog in the morning but mild. The sun was there but it took a while to melt the fog. Temperatures warmed to the pleasant mid 70s.

Well, by the looks of it, I could convince myself that we were back in Maine. But quick sanity check confirmed that is Maine right now I would not be in shorts and short sleeves.  The fog was interesting and obscured most of Hilton Head that we passed by in the morning. You can see faintly the pole line that is about 100 yards away.

We did know the sun was there and we hoped it would win out over the fog shortly. We are just getting back to the AICW.

The bridge to Hilton Head

This is looking back at the north end of Hilton Head.

This is looking out to Port Royal Sound.

And the fog is still hanging around out there. Can you see the fog line?

Can you see it now?

Haven't used the radar in a long while!

We have turned and are heading up to Port Royal.

See the small boat ahead.

Can you see it now? It is a small coastal cruise boat. We see them in Maine in our summertime.

This is Parris Island. Training camp for the Marines. Can you read the water tower?

Port Royal marina - just down from Beaufort

The approach to Beaufort. We picked up a mooring for $20.

The waterfront is wonderful. It has been redone and it was do nicely.

The old buildings are wonderful to see.

More of the waterfront.

And the original Santa Maria (or so to made to look so) here for a time it appears

As you can read, the town in the early 1900's fell on hard times.

Main Street is nice

After lunch that took forever, we did some more house seeing.

Hey Lauren - they have a street here named just for you!!

Back on the boat after an ice cream at Kiwinns for dinner.

Faye beat me 208 to 210 in Mexican Train. This is getting far too common.

Fortunately the threatened thunderstorms dissolved. Faye and I played Mexican Train tonight. Sorry Guys - she beat me again.

And as the evening has faded. it is time to say

Good Night and May God Bless
