Day 327 Charleston to Minim Creek Thursday April 11, 2019

Day 327 Charleston to Minim Creek Thursday April 11, 2019

The night was cool and nice for sleeping.  The sun rose brilliantly. Then strong S/SE winds in the afternoon. Temperatures warmed to the pleasant high 70s.

The winds of yesterday afternoon fortunately did not remain strong through the night as predicted. We thus slept well with a moderate roll that was as pacifying as it was distracting.

The sun was in full force this morning - lighting the sky with a clarity that was magnificent.  It also provided wonderful back lighting of the Yorktown - the WWII aircraft carrier that was a significant part for winning the war of the Pacific. I toured it several years ago and it was an incredible experience.

The sun also led the way out of Charleston Harbor.

Fort Sumter still stands guard at the mouth of the harbor as seen in the telephoto view below

The day was approaching 50 miles. We started about 0800 with the idea of stopping at McClellanville - but there was no room at the inn. So we pushed on.

This is Isle of Palms just starting into the AICW again.

In many places at first there were homes and docks lining the way.

But then we got out into the marsh area and you had to have been quite independent to build and live out here.

You can get a sense of the size of the marsh area from the photo below.

This is the area just south of McClellanville. It is one of the shallowest areas on the AICW. We hit it right so we were passing on a rising tide and about half-high.

And here is the entrance to McClellanville. It would have been a nice stop but it was just noon time and so it was easy to push on north.

The scenery was really enjoyable.

Here we are turning into our anchorage at Minim Creek. It was a great spot and out in the marshes as you can see. Fortunately we seem to be early enough in the spring that the bugs are not very prevalent. Hope it stays that way.

And our spot on the earth tonight. The wind is blowing 15 - 20 knots but there are no waves. There is current in the stream and the current is winning out over the wind in deciding which direction the boat is pointing. A nice stop.

So you can see the sun has set and thus it is time to say ...................

Good Night and May God Bless
