Day 34 Peterborough to Lakefield Saturday June 23, 2018

It was cool last night - mid fifty's - nice for sleeping  Clouds moved in during evening.  There was threat of showers/rain for periods during the day but we got drizzle only - not bad for a non- sunny day

Like yesterday, today was a most uplifting day.
We got to ride the Peterborough lift lock in our own boat. Whoo Hoo!!!

We traveled with four boats through all our locks today. We started at lock 20. The lift lock is 21

We got green light and arrow directing to the starboard tub. Either side can be used for up or down. Just depends on the what was the last cycle.
It was amazing to look up and then ride up. What struck me is the thought of the builders and the first time they "flipped the switch" and hoped that it would work as planned - there have been some colossal failures of the best laid plans. Like Galloping Gertie

Friends Susan and Jim were up top and took these photos - how cool, eh?

And for today's "Scarecrow" moment, found this sign amusing at Lock 22 - "Think we'll go this way,"

The locks "open" at nine but we didn't start through the first lock 20 until 10:00. And they are much slower to fill than the Erie Canal - and the attendants, while friendly, are nicely laid back. So while it didn't rain, we were ready to stop at the upper side of Lock 26 in Lakefield. It was almost 1400 and we enjoyed our hot soup for lunch.

There is a town just beyond the trees we are told. Weather being OK in the morning, we will take a stroll into town and look for some breakfast.

As it is approaching Looper midnight (2100), I will say

Good Night and May God Bless

So wonderful to hear from you and to know that you are following the trip. Yes it is an amazing adventure. For the two of us that are not seasoned travelers, this trip is really a very different and wonderful experience from the rather nice, but predictable, life we have enjoyed to date.

Looking forward to seeing you in Florida this winter.
