Day 44 Entrance of Lake Simceo to Orillia, Tuesday July 3, 2018

Day 44 Entrance of Lake Simceo to Orillia, Tuesday July 3, 2018

Clear sky at night.  Another hot day - high in the low 90s  A breeze came up as the temperature rose. A nice, but very warm day.

It was a calm and uneventful day on the large Lake Simcoe. The photo below is from the wall that forms the inlet to the canal we traveled in yesterday. Lake Simcoe is almost round with a reported size of 16 x 14 miles. We only traversed the northeast corner - but still a 11 mile run of open water.

We had perfect conditions. The lake can get very rough with waves mentioned of up to 8 feet. But as you can see we battled none of that and simply enjoyed looking at a large expanse of open water. It really reminded us of Maine and making the run up Penobscot Bay - without the Camden Hills in the background - so we used our imagination. On this perfect day it did bring a twinge of missing the boating season in Maine. We laughed about feeling like a little child that becomes so upset because he/she wants to do two things at once but can't.

The City of Orillia is located on Lake Simcoe but the City Marina and the main part of the city are located above the Narrows - a rather tight canal that passes under a bridge and is lined with marinas and water related activities.

Having made it through the Narrows - and it is - and I can just imagine what it was like over the weekend, we approached the Port of Orillia Marina.

It is a great facility with space for 220 boats - and given the lack of boats here today most of the spaces are used by transients.  I was feeling a little sad that the marina seemed underused - but the attendant said that they where completely full over the Canada Day weekend. And that boating traffic will pick up again with vacationers beginning this week.

We ate lunch at Studerbaker's -just behind the Marina. We then ventured up Main Street that had a good number of shops and restaurants.

One of the shops we stopped at was the "Mariposa Bakery and Land of Sinful Sugar Delights" (For those that don't know me that well yet, I'll note that I added that last part)
And here's the Sinful Sugar Delights - It was amazing. You can see that in addition to bakery goods you can get lunch here too. Even the lunches where all based on indulgence. I can assure you that there is no Weight Watchers meetings held here. As we are trying to be good at eating, we were both glad to have already eaten - we are even proud to say we didn't buy anything here.

We continued our stroll and noticed that there are a good number of these artistic chairs - not sure the original of there presence, they were kind of interesting. There was also other sidewalk art.

We stopped at the grocery store and while there we picked up fruit and juice to make ourselves some smoothies. Back at the boat we enjoyed our smoothies following a meal of wonderfully cooked chicken with rice and brocolli. - aren't you proud of us?  Yes I know you are smiling about all the times we have mentioned the great ice cream we have had - but moderation is good, eh?

And for today's Blues Clues it is a "Who am I"

Clue 1: I was born in Orillia
Clue 2: I am a famous folk singer
Clue 3: One of my songs is about a ship sinking on a Great Lake when the gales of November came early.

Yes you are correct - Gordon Lightfoot - who by the way, while age 78, is still touring. I hope I am able to sit up and take nourishment at that age. To make that happen I need my rest so .....

Good Night and May God Bless
