Day 69 McGregor Bay to Little Current Friday July 27, 2018

Day 69  McGregor Bay to Little Current Friday July 27, 2018

The day arrived with some clouds and a few sprinkles. The wind came up and made a bouncy ride to Little Current. The sun gained the upper hand later in the day. Nice day after all. Temperatures in the mid 70s

Hello all - posting this from Little Current as cell has been - Zero - the last several days.

The day began with clouds. The sun peeked through for a few moments on the ride out. The clouds returned and the wind increased as the left McGregor Bay and turned west for Little Current.

As the wind of yesterday died nicely just before sunset and stayed low during the night, I was able to get the Mavic airborne for some nice shots that highlight the vast water courses in the area.

The approach to Little Current has a nice lighthouse.

The swing bridge that we must arrive at on the hour.
Does this bridge look narrow to you? Well you are correct. The bridge was originally for the railroad but was abandoned long ago. The water ferry for passengers and vehicles became heavy and the railroad bridge was turned into a one lane bridge that has served the island of Manitoulin since 1945.

And they call this Little Current for a reason. The narrows of the passage will have a current when the wind is up as it drives water in that direction. It was about a knot and a half when we came through.

The Town of Little Current. We stayed at the city docks

After anchored we found the Anchor Inn and the laundromat.
Roy Eaton, the retired high school principal, has a wonderful call in of boaters each morning in July and August. His "station" is located in the Inn and we will try to sit in tomorrow. He broadcasts the weather. news and marine forecast - good when you have no cell. Each boat reports it location and messages can be passed. He has reached 2500 call ins this year and typically hits 6500 for the year. It is a little like the old Marine Operator that you called to get connected to a shore line - oh the good ole days.

A trip to the grocery store and a then later a fine dinner at Elliots Resturant completed a fine day.

So time to say .........

Good Night and May God Bless
