Day 59 Black Bay to Obstacle Island/Parting Channel Tuesday July 17, 2018

The night was cool and clouds left entirely. Glorious clear morning that later was filled with the biggest fluffy clouds you can imagine. The breeze didn’t develop until after noon.

The dawn was wonderful

The still air afforded a chance to fly the Mavic – here are some snaps before we departed. These are magnificent – but you should see the video – breathtaking. And I am running out of superlatives as each location is better than the last since leaving Midland

The ride today was a relatively short of one of 15miles. Like yesterday it included a few twists and turns through the islands including the tightest twist yet, Parting Channel

We even reached the northern direction of the trip. Opposite Key Harbor we turned west and will now generally be following that direction until Mackinaw and the entrance into Lake Michigan.

As you have figured out I am not one to miss a chance to go off the direct route. And today was no different. We traveled the wonderful Parting Channel/Obstacle Island secondary route.

Parting Channel is named for the potential parting of the bottom of your boat from the top if you are not careful – my interpretation of the name – but I would bet I am not far off. The photos below are in order of travel over several minutes

Just after the adventure of Parting Channel we turned to port and there was a beautiful bay just north of Obstacle Island - catch the name by the way? Obstacle Island is the west (left in photos) side of Parting Channel. We anchored here – we were sure we would have company but only one sailboat came by and based on their muttering that I overheard, we had taken their spot and while there was room they weren’t about to anchor next to a powerboat – oh well –“Go West Young Man”  In this case two older men but I think the phrase still works – don’t you?

We arrived around noon and after lunch took a marvelous dinghy ride among the cracks in the Canadian Shield. We were both speechless as we rode along – I was taking pictures as fast as I could snap them and here are but a few.

The wind didn’t die down so I could fly the Mavic but here are some photos of the anchorage and the sunset that was amazing – again I know I am effusing but I can’t help it

So as the sun has set I will say…….

Good Night and May God Bless
