Day 48 Big Chute to Lock 45 Severn, Friday July 6 2018
Clear
sky at night. It did cool at night for fine sleeping. The air changed over night to brisk NW wind and much drier and cooler temperatures in the high 60s = nice but breezy.

We only traveled 8 miles today - but they were a wonderful and delightful and momentarily tense time.
As I noted yesterday it was our turn to try the BIG CHUTE Marine Railway. The wind had come up strong with the clearing winds. The carriage is not lined up for a straight on approach and there is some current from right to left and that is the way the wind was blowing. So aim for the right frame and see if the bow will blow by it and then twist to starboard and forward 3/4 of a boat length. Ya sure.
But we made it nicely and the crew grabbed the boat quickly with the hydraulic straps - and we are on the way.
But before the pictures, I must back up. Several days ago we were in a lock with Steve and Janice on a 35 foot Doral - but turns out they did the Loop in a 1984 Bayliner 38. We got their boat card. They were traveling with another boat owned by daughter Sarah and husband Louie and two year old son Steven. Sarah. Louie and Steven arrived yesterday at the Big Chute and tied up behind us. Steven was very cute and we chatted a fair amount. He was pretty attached to the blue truck with the "rebel" sticker on the hood - but I did manage to get to hold it for a brief moment.
They would be headed back to their home base I believe around Orilla in the morning, but Louie said he would take photos of us riding the Chute!!.
So with thanks to Louie and family, I have shots from the rail carriage on the flybridge and outside - some nice, eh?
We Did It? It was actually fun and would have been a piece of cake if not for the winds making entering the Chute a little tense - and with all the staff watching you and waiting to see if you get added to the "do remember the guy that...." list of tales. But Faye liked it - no ropes to hold - just enjoy the ride.
From then is was an beautiful and relaxing ride to the public docks above Lock 45 in Severn. The landscape has far more evergreens and the land has many more rock formations than the first 75% of the waterway. A few shots below.
Lunch at the nearby "The Grill" was good.
We walked back up stream to the StarDepot Marina - love the hours of operation sign
Really nice Ford V8 - but I doubted it was the original color.
A great day So...
Good Night and May God Bless
