Day 50 Midland Bayport Marina 2nd day, Sunday July 8, 2018

Clear sky at night.  Nice and cool at night for fine sleeping. The breeze remained from the NW but only light and temperature was again in mid 70s - wonderful day- Again!!

How about a nice sunrise photo - my second best time of the day. Remember the first from a few posts back?

So today was maintenance day. Started at 7:30 and finished at 4:30. A long day. Projects started with fixing the loose fixed end of the steering ram. Second was repacking the starboard shaft log. After removing and replacing the packing (material to keep the water from dripping at the shaft) material on the starboard shaft the material looked good so I just tightened the port side shaft adjustment, and then changed oil in main engines, generator and transmissions - and don't forget clean up and disposal of oil at tank on site - that is half a mile away - but had carts.

At 4:30 following a nice hot shower, we set off to find dinner. There is an excellent walking/biking path to the center of the Town of Midland.  There is still a large grain elevator. And it has a mural on it. This is where the freighter in yesterday's post was docked

This is the Town public docks. They are not even close to the BayPort Marina (which is background). The second photo is taken from the porch of the Boatyard Restaurant. Marina was nice to look at but not a place that would be good to stay at.

And looking the other way we see a Tiki Bar in Canada, who'd a thunk in Midland. ON, eh?
Here is old photos of the waterfront when it was really a working waterfront. The bike path below was a train track.
Saw these three "texting" each other. And we asked them are you texting each other - "Yes we are"
See any thing usually in this photo? Well I guess you can see the big stainless steel Canadian Goose.
How about now . See the gull on top of the head. Thought that was a bit ironic.

After dinner  we walked FOUR miles -  to Walmart - Google Maps says only 29 minutes but more like an hour. I must have done something wrong. But it was a nice walk up Main Street and there were nice sidewalks the whole way.

In the Walmart Lot there was a welcoming sight - Boston Pizza. Never heard of it - but I am sure they must have the Red Sox games on all the time and not the Blue Jays. eh?
So after a taxi ride back to the boat we treated ourselves to some home made smoothies with really strawberries and blueberries - yum!! A long but productive day. So........

Good Night and May God Bless
